I explore the long-term recovery of human-disturbed ecosystems to improve restoration practices. I am currently leading a network of researchers worldwide (which is open to new collaborators!) interested in the recovery of post-agricultural forests through chronosequences. Collaborators collect soil, root and leave samples in their recovering forest chronosequences, enabling us to study the recovery of tree-ectomycorrhizal fungi networks and its relationship with belowground multifunctionality.

In my previous research work, I explored how different AMF taxa changed over time in response to nitrogen fertilisation and reduced irrigation. I'm generally currently working on bioenergy sorghum AMF interaction.

Plant-soil interaction

Understanding the biological significance of the genetic variations in arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization in rice by studying the growth of cultivars contrasting in colonization in a range of soils to see if there are different properties of facilitation and parasitism depending on cultivar and soil.

Assessment of fungi destroying trees in the forest

My research is focused on ectomycorrhizal fungi in forest ecosystems. I am passionate about coupling field collections with molecular identification methods to investigate ectomycorrhizal species diversity. As a Holden biologist, I am driven to connect people to fungi and their tree partners.

I study the role of arbuscular mycorrhizas as maintenance specialists of the ecosystem. I am focused on: (i) better understanding of the ecosystem through analysis of mycorrhizas as drivers of ecosystem function; (ii) investigating the effects of toxic pollutants on mycorrhizas; and (iii) development of new restoration technologies using mycorrhizas.

I study the impact of mycorrhiza on the distribution, dynamics and functioning of forests. I am also interested at understanding the interactions of the entire soil biota during ecosystem development.

The main focus of my research is on ectomycorrhizal symbiosis and the study of mycorrhizal communities in selected ecosystems. Also, I'm very interested in fungal mapping and relevant conservation efforts.

I am interested in how soil organisms, like mycorrhizal fungi and biocrusts, shape the function of ecosystems and can be used in restoraiton.

My main research interest is how soil microbial communities respond to various global changes, and how their response cause the changes in biogeochemical cycling in terrestrial ecosystems.

My research is focusing on understanding how soil fungi drive forest ecosystems through their roles in important soil processes including organic matter decomposition and nutrient turnover, as well as carbon sequestration. Much of his research has concentrated on ectomycorrhizal fungi, which form symbiotic associations with the roots of forest trees. I'm developing large-scale genomics and environmental genomics for investigating the function and role of this highly significant class of soil microorganisms.

My research interests are about the diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in peat forests, mangrove forests, tropical forests in West Kalimantan. Apart from that, I also researched the physiology of heavy metal stress (especially mercury) in mycorrhizal plants as a basis for phytoremediation of mercury-contaminated land. Most gold mining in West Kalimantan uses mercury in the gold amalgamation process. This causes the land around the gold mining area to be contaminated with mercury. Phytoremediation efforts can be supported with mycorrhizal plants.

Ecological and evolutionary consequences of interactions among species, including coevolution between plants and mycorrhizal fungi, how mycorrhizal networks alter plant ecology, and the dynamics of plant-fungal co-invasions.

I am a microbial ecologist, biogeochemist, and professor at Boston University with 20+ years of experience leading research teams in ecosystem ecology, soil biogeochemistry, and environmental microbiome science. My research focuses on using molecular and biogeochemistry tools to identify how human-induced global changes – such as warming, elevated carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, nutrient pollution, and urbanization – impact patterns of microbial abundance and activity in forests at the molecular, community, and landscape levels.

My main two areas of research are seeking to understand the role of microbial secreted proteins, nucleic acids, and metabolites in negotiating symbiotic interactions with plants (chemical ecology). I also study the plant perception systems that enable them to differentiate between mutualistic and pathogenic microbes.

The research in my laboratory is fairly broad, but we are mostly interested in understanding the taxonomic and functional diversity of mycorrhizal fungi with a particular focus on arbuscular and ectomycorrhizal fungi in the Great Plains of North America.

I study the mycorrhizal ecology of forests. Through a combination of field, lab and greenhouse experiments, my lab learns about mycorrhizas and we apply this knowledge to maintain and restore forests on the landscape.

I am a researcher at the Slovenian Forestry Institute. I have obtained a BSc title in Biology, and a PhD in Biotechnology at the University of Ljubljana. My name is Helbert, a researcher from Research Center for Ecology and Ethnobiology, National Research and Innovation Agency, Indonesia. My work focuses on ectomycorrhizal fungal communities in Indonesian tropical forests, especially on their biodiversity and ecology. My goal is to map ectomycorrhizal fungi distribution in Indonesian forests.

Ian’s research investigates the role mutualistic symbionts have in maintaining the functionality of ecological networks, and the ecophysiology of network members, under extreme and changing conditions.  He investigates these topics through the experimental manipulation of common mycorrhizal networks in field conditions, through meta-analyses, and modeling and simulation.

My lab research focuses on fungal taxonomy and ecology, mycorrhiza studies, mushroom cultivation.
