I am broadly interested in diversity, ecology, and systematics of tropical fungi. Specially on ectomycorrhizal fungi from amazonaian ecosystems

I am involved in the study of various aspects of plant biodiversity & its connection to local/Indigenous communities. Recently, forming a multidisciplinary team and using anthropology deep inquiry, scientific explorations and local/community participatory observation, we have completed an ethnomycological project, working among the very endangered, Meche indigenous community in the southern plain of Nepal.

I am interested in Mycorrhizal Fungal species, Tropical Forest Ecology, Invasion of alien plant species, Plant systematics, Conservation biological study of rare and endangered species, and learning the linkage of biodiversity and local communities. I study the role of arbuscular mycorrhizas as maintenance specialists of the ecosystem. I am focused on: (i) better understanding of the ecosystem through analysis of mycorrhizas as drivers of ecosystem function; (ii) investigating the effects of toxic pollutants on mycorrhizas; and (iii) development of new restoration technologies using mycorrhizas.

My research interest is in free-living and plant-parasitic nematodes but I also work on other groups of soil organisms.

My research revolves around the ecology of plant and soil microbial interactions and their effects on ecosystem services. My research focuses on understanding whether plant evolutionary processes are mediated by climatic changes, abiotic factors and biotic interactions. As a mycologist and plant pathologist, I work broadly on fungal biodiversity discovery and analysis to better inform conservation efforts with emphasis on plant pathogenic fungi, entomophthogenic fungi, and fungal mutualists of animals and plants. I also served as director of INVAM, the world's largest collection of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, from 2017-2022.

My research focuses on understanding how changing environments, including disturbance and biological invasions, impact plants and their associated mycorrhizal fungal communities across scales. Current projects in my lab include: (1) examining how symbiotic interactions between plants and mycorrhizal fungi shape above and belowground communities in response to, and recovery from, disturbance events; (2) determining how microbiomes can be tailored to improve plant productivity in natural and agroecosystems; and (3) investigating the role of microbial inoculations in the success or failure of native plant establishment in ecological restorations.
